I’ve always considered myself a simple watch guy - clean faces, no complications and elegant designs. But something changed after a meeting with Marco Borracino, the founder and creative mind of the brand Singer Reimagined, during an event organised by the Portuguese magazine Espiral do Tempo. I did a writeup on that event, that you can read more about here.
After my time with Marco and getting to know its clever design of placing the chronograph indication in the center of the dial, he and Miguel Seabra (a self-proclaimed chrono-guy and the Technical Director of Espiral do Tempo) explained to me that the Singer Reimagined design was highly influenced by 70s chronographs, more particularly the cushion-cased Heuer Autavia from that period.
Luckily enough, Miguel Seabra owns the modern pair of reissued TAG Heuer Autavias, introduced by the brand back in 2003, and he let me try out and photograph his watches! After spending some time with them, I enjoyed their sporty, yet elegant looks, the way the C-Shaped cases fit to the wrist (due to the short lugs, the 41mm case is comfortable, even on my small wrist), but most importantly, I love how it makes us travel back to a time of racing, adrenaline and speed. Watches have this power of making us feel like we belong to a different period, place of profession, and so far these two watches are the ones that had the biggest impact on me. All of a sudden, my love for sporty chronographs was born!
Out of the two, the “Orange Boy” was my favorite to wear and photograph, blending well with my skin tone and with a variety of orange props to make the dial stand out.
The Siffert blue picture, however, received the biggest amount of praise, being selected as the winner of Deployant’s watch photo contest!
