Maurice de Mauriac is a Swiss boutique brand based in Zurich, with lots of attitude and some great designs.
I'm a fan of their L Series (designed by Fabian Schwaerzler), specially the minimalist L1 "tool watch" and the newly released L3 "Chrono".
L2 Diver - Stainless steel
The L2 is the brand's dive watch, part of the Line series. Despite the 42mm case size in stainless steel, it wears very well - I used it on my 16cm wrist without problems. And it's a joy to the eyes - the watch looks minimalist (in a good way), with good legibility thanks to the stick hands and markers. The lumed bezel with markers up to 15 min really gives the watch a distinct look, on a market flooded with Rolex Submariners and alike. It has a screw down crown (of course), a helium escape valve (why not) and the robust construction ensures 300m of water resistance.
The watch was a challenge to photograph due to its blue AR coating on the crystal. When I asked Daniel about his choice on the blue coating, he told me that it was intentional, since it gives the dial some "mystery" - after this information, I decided to highlight this detail by forcing a light reflection on the dial, and a matching shade of blue in the background.
Being a dive watch, of course it had to get wet as well!
L3 Chrono - Red dial
Red is definitely a popular dial color in 2019, and this one looks quite vivid, with a metallic finish and a sunburst effect. It fades to black on the edges of the dial, toning it down a little.
I didn't expect to like a red dial watch, but it goes so well with casual light clothes, that I think it's the perfect choice for a playful summer watch!
For the photoshoot I decided to highlight the red tones and summer vibes by placing the watch with some homemade sangria and red wine, while the detail was shot on a black background, making the red center almost "float" on the dial.
